Lundqvist was drafted by the New York Rangers with the No. 205 overall pick in the 2000 draft. He spent half a decade playing in Sweden before making his debut with the Rangers during the 2005-06 season. Lundqvist also backstopped Sweden to an Olympic Gold medal in Torino during his rookie season in the NHL.
From there, Lundqvist would play 15 seasons in the league, winning the 2012 Vezina Trophy for the league’s top goaltender and helping the Rangers to the Stanley Cup Final in 2014. Lundqvist posted a .918 save percentage over his 887-game NHL career and sits sixth in all-time wins among goaltenders with 459.
It seems inevitable Lundqvist will be a first-ballot Hall of Famer in a few years and he’ll become the 11th player to have his number retired by the Rangers organization.
