Hockey Canada announces 2023 IIHF Women’s World Championship roster

Hockey Canada announced the 23 players who will represent Team Canada at the 2023 IIHF Women’s World Championship in Brampton Ontario which runs from April 5-16. 

The team was selected by head coach Troy Ryan, along with Director of Hockey Operations Gina Kingsbury and senior manager of player development and scouting Cherie Piper. The coaching staff includes Kori Cheverie, Doug Dereaugh of Cornell University, Rachel Flanagan of the University of Guelph, Caroline Ouellette of Concordia University, and goaltending consultant Brad Kirkwood, all of who provided input on the roster. 

“Our staff had some very difficult decisions selecting this roster and that speaks to the depth that we have within our program,” said Ryan. “We are confident that we have assembled a talented roster with a great deal of character and leadership. Our entire staff is excited to have the opportunity to work with each of these athletes as we begin this journey toward a World Championship.”

Danielle Serdachny will make her IIHF World Championship debut, she joins 18 players who helped Canada capture their 12th women’s world gold medal in the 2022 tournament that was held in Denmark. The following players are, Erin Ambrose, Kristen Campbell, Emily Clark, Ann-Renee Desbiens, Renata Fast, Sarah Fillier, Brianne Jenner, Jocelyne Larocque, Emma Maltais, Emerance Maschmeyer, Sarah Nurse, Kristin O’Neill, Marie-Philip Poulin, Jame Lee Rattray, Ella Shelton, Laura Stacey, Blayre Turnbull and Micah Zandee-Hart. 

Canada will be in Group A with Czechia, Japan, Switzerland and the United States. Meanwhile, Group B includes Finland, France, Germany, Hungary and Sweden. Canada opens up the tournament on April 5 against Switzerland. Canada has captured 12 gold medals at the IIHF Women’s World Championship, as well as eight silver medals and one bronze.
