Iginla and Olczyk replace David Branch and Mike Gartner on the selection committee, who each served their 15-year terms. Gartner will replace Lanny McDonald as chair of the board of the Hockey Hall of Fame in June 2025, while Seattle Kraken General Manager Ron Francis will replace Gartner as chair of the selection committee.
“One of the things that makes the Selection Committee so strong is the regular inclusion of new voices and the opportunity for highly knowledgeable hockey people to contribute in the process of honoring excellence in our game,” McDonald said in a press release.
“To this end, we are very pleased to welcome Jarome and Ed to the committee, and thrilled that Ron, a long-time member and one of hockey’s great leaders, has agreed to serve as Chair,” he continued.
Iginla was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2020, capping off an illustrious career that saw the winger score 625 goals and 675 assists for 1,300 points in 1,554 career games with the Calgary Flames, Pittsburgh Penguins, Boston Bruins, Colorado Avalanche and Los Angeles Kings.
Meanwhile, Olczyk was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2012, scoring 342 goals and 452 assists for 794 points in 1,031 games with the Chicago Blackhawks, Toronto Maple Leafs, Winnipeg Jets, New York Rangers, as well as the Kings and the Penguins. He won a Stanley Cup with the Rangers in 1994.
