It has been a rather bumpy start for the two-time defending Western Conference champions. One of the reasons for the Edmonton Oilers‘ slow beginning to the 2025-26 season has been their offense, or lack thereof.

Through seven games, the Oilers have an even 3-3-1 record and have just 18 goals scored. It seems to be a far cry from where a team with superstars like captain Connor McDavid and reigning Rocket Richard Trophy winner Leon Draisaitl should be.

Granted, slow starts in Edmonton have become the norm in recent years, with the team having always found a way to turn things around near the holiday season, flexing its muscles as a potential Stanley Cup favorite.

On Thursday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and Carter Hutton discuss the level of concern with the Oilers’ offense.

Tyler Yaremchuk: Their offense at 5-on-5 is 30th in the NHL. There is ___ reason to be concerned about the Oilers’ offense?

Carter Hutton: I guess I’m just so used to the slow starts. This doesn’t even get my pulse going at all here. … This is a team that just has the experience and they have the high-powered offense. They have everything it takes to be a good team in the future. They’re setting the table, right? So, my only concern for them is just finding the structure and finding – where is that secondary scoring going to come from? Because at the end of the day, we know Connor, we know Draisaitl, we know we’re going to get those points when we need them. Those are guys that have been proven performers when it matters most. Now it’s the tinkering in this lineup. Now it is, okay, what are the additions we’re going to need to push our team over the top? … So, it’s more that secondary scoring for me that kind of lights the lamp a little bit here.
