The Carolina Hurricanes have given star defenceman Dougie Hamilton’s agent, J.P. Barry, permission to talk with other teams, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte’s Friedman and TSN’s Darren Dreger.
As Hamilton is set to become a UFA in roughly one month’s time, this opens up the possibility of a potential sign and trade situation.
Hamilton is coming off of a six-year deal that carried an annual average value of $5.75 million, meaning he is certainly going to get a decent pay raise on his next contract.
The 27-year-old has been one of the league’s top rearguards for the past few seasons and there will certainly be multiple teams lining up for his services in the coming weeks.
