Iginla highlights additions to Canada’s 2024 U-18 World Championship team

Hockey Canada has announced that 2024 top prospect Tij Iginla has been added to Canada’s 2024 U-18 World Championship team.

Iginla spent the 2023-24 regular season with the Kelowna Rockets in the Western Hockey League (WHL) where he tallied 47 goals and added 37 assists for 84 points in 64 games boosting his draft stock. Iginla joined the Rockets this season after spending parts of the last two seasons with the reigning WHL champions Seattle Thunderbirds.

Daily Faceoff’s Steven Ellis has Iginla ranked No. 11 in his pre-tournament rankings. “Score, score and score some more,” Ellis said. “That’s what he does best. Iginla is a solid distributor, don’t get me wrong. But with the puck on his stick, he’s a dangerous generator. He plays with good pace, and while he isn’t big, he’s physically strong. There’s top-six potential here for a guy who loves controlling the pace of play. It doesn’t hurt having his family’s pedigree, either.”

The Lake Country, British Columbia product represented Canada at the Under-17 World Hockey Championships last season and tallied two goals and seven points in seven games with Canada Red.

Hockey Canada also announced the addition of Jack Ivankovic of the Mississauga Steelheads, Ollie Josephson of the Red Deer Rebels, Maxim Massé of the Chicoutimi Saguenéens, and Henry Mews and Frankie Marrellli from the Ottawa 67’s.

Canada will play Sweden on Thursday to open up the tournament.
