Igor Shesterkin, Juuse Saros, and Jacob Markstrom named 2022 Vezina Trophy finalists

There will be a first-time Vezina Trophy winner this season.

The NHL announced on Tuesday that Igor Shesterkin of the New York Rangers, Juuse Saros of the Nashville Predators, and Jacob Markstrom of the Calgary Flames have been named finalists for the Vezina Trophy.

Shesterkin fifth in Calder Trophy voting in his first full season in the league last year and appears to be the favorite to win the Veinza this year. Shesterkin’s .935 save percentage led the league by a wide margin, as Ilya Sorokin of the New York Islanders ranked second at .925, and he played on a team that finished 25th in the league in terms of even-strength shot attempt differential.

Markstrom posted a .922 save percentage and led the league with nine shutouts while Saros finished his season with na .918 save percentage. Saros finished sixth in Vezina voting last season while Markstrom finished fourth in 2019-20 when he was playing for the Vancouver Canucks.

The NHL will be announcing finalists for all of the major awards throughout the week. The winners of the awards will be revealed during the Conference Finals and Stanley Cup Final, with exact dates, format and times to be announced.
