Is the price going to fall for Blue Jackets’ Vladislav Gavrikov?

Today on Daily Faceoff Live Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discuss the Boston Bruins’ recent acquisition of Dmitry Orlov and what it means for Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov’s market price.
Tyler Yaremchuk: Let’s talk about some of the ripple effects from this trade and none bigger than the Vladislav Gavrikov situation. This is a guy who we’ve heard the rumors and rumblings about and tnat Boston was really interested in acquiring him and obviously that’s not happening now. Gavrikov is still in Columbus, and is one of those guys who sat out for trade-related reasons. So Frank I’ll throw you the underhand lob, which teams could now be in the mix for Gavrikov?
Frank Seravalli: Well that’s where I think it really gets interesting. How does it relate to the overall price that’s paid for Gavrikov if indeed the Bruins had something in place with Columbus? If you’re in Columbus’s shoes, does this present a challenge for you? Are you left with nothing at this exact moment in time. I’ve been saying since the trade deadline period opened that I knew they would be targeting the David Savard return, which was a first a third and a fourth-round pick. I thought they’d have a hard time getting it based off the impact Savard had and the price paid for Ben Chiarot last deadline that teams are weary of that. You also are taking a deep dive on Gavrikov’s game and asking yourself ‘what does he do that well’, he’s well rounded and he’s not very bad at anything, but there’s not one facet of his game that you look at that is super elite.
So when you look at the teams who are interested, I do wonder if there’s a secondary market push in the sense that — let’s use the Leafs as a hypothetical — if we think that they are ready to improve the back end of their defense so they monitor the price of Gavrikov to see if they can get in that mix at something is less than what the market ask is thought to be. We will see what Jarmo Kekalainen has up his sleeve but I think with the way things have unfolded, it has a few other teams excited that the price is falling.
