Tyler Yaremchuk and Frank Seravalli discussed the Jamie Drysdale signing on the latest episode of Daily Faceoff Live.

Tyler Yaremchuk: The Anaheim Ducks signed Jamie Drysdale to a three-year contract coming in with a cap hit of just under $3 million. He’s a defenseman who has played 113 career games and looked pretty solid in those 113 games. Like 40 points in your first year and a half of NHL hockey is pretty solid. He was banged up last season but this is a guy where if he’s healthy and going on the development path that a lot of people think he will, he’s going to be a really good defenseman in this league.

Frank Seravalli: Being healthy is still a question mark when you come off an injury like that and go out and prove that you can be healthy, I don’t have any red flags as far as that is concerned. I doubt it’s going to be something you see as a repeat injury. When you look at Drsydale and the step that he should have taken. You’re looking at this deal and you’re going, this deal seems to be right in the wheelhouse of the Ducks of a pretty sweet spot to be. It’s $2.3 million a year times three years, that’s a great place to be for a guy that I think can step back into the lineup, take a step forward and be close to a 40-point defenseman right now, let alone for the next two years.

The tough spot that Drysdale was in is that he has two additional pro seasons required to get to arbitration so he would have needed to play two just to get there and really have some leverage in contract negotiations. Now he’s got three, not really get in terms of AAV for him. Like it feels like he sold low but that’s really the spot they were in with no leverage, no arb rights, no ability to offer sheet, really kind of stuck.
