UPDATE! January 11th – Fantasy Hockey Goalie Rankings
If you missed the Tampa Bay vs. Philadelphia this afternoon, you quite and exciting mess of electrifying offence and minimal defence. We have nine games left on the schedule tonight with a lot of great matchups. The Avalanche will meet the Wild for their fourth of five meetings this season, Colorado is 2-0-1 vs. Minny so far. Corey Crawford looks for his first win since returning from injury tonight in Montreal, while Jonas Hiller goes for his 13th straight victory and the season sweep of the Coyotes in their fifth and final meeting. Also, Boston is in San Jose and Detroit will face the Kings in L.A… You won’t have a shortage of great puck to watch tonight. Here are tonight’s starting goalie rankings! 1. Marc-Andre Fleury (@ CGY) – The Flames have been shutout in five of their last seven games, while Fleury leads the NHL with 25 wins and has won nine of his last 11.
2. Jonas Hiller (@ PHX) – Hiller has won 12 straight games and with Ducks have not lost to the Coyotes in four meetings this season.
3. Semyon Varlamov (@ MIN) – Varlamov is 1-0-1 with a 1.38 GAA and .953 SV% against Minnesota this season.
4. Jonathan Quick (vs. DET) – Quick is 2-0-1 with a 1.30 GAA and .940 SV% in three starts since returning from his grade 2 groin strain and takes on a banged up Red Wings team.
5. Cory Schneider (vs. FLA) – Schneider has stopped 76 of 79 shots in his last three games and takes on Florida who have the 28th ranked offence (2.23 G/PG)
6. Corey Crawford(@MTL) -Crawford has a 2.60 GAA and .926 SV% in his first three games back as he searches for his first victory since December 8.
7. Tuukka Rask (@ SJ) – Rask has been pulled twice in his last five games and only one win in that span, however he is still one of the NHL’s elite fantasy goalies and does not belong on your bench.
8. Craig Anderson (@ NSH) – Anderson is 4-0-1 with a 2.79 GAA and .914 SV% in his last five starts and faces Nashville tonight, who have lost four of their last five.
9. Antti Niemi (vs. BOS) – Niemi sits 2nd in the NHL with 23 wins, but has a tough matchup tonight with a Bruins team who is starting to get healthy. He remains a strong start, but there are better options.
10. Carey Price (vs. CHI) – Despite the Blackhawks recent struggles, the Blackhawks are the NHL’s highest scoring team and pose a threat to opposing netminders every night.
11. Jimmy Howard (@ LA) – Howard was pulled on Thursday and only has seven wins this season. He also takes on a Kings team who give up the least goals in the NHL, so if he is going to win, he’ll likely have to stand on his head.
12. Niklas Backstrom (vs. COL) – Is Backstrom back? He has won three straight starts while allowing just five goals and posting a .944 SV%.
13. Tim Thomas (@ NJ) – Thomas is 11-11-2 with a 2.60 GAA and .914 SV% this season. He draws a favourable matchup against New Jersey, they rank 26th in the NHL with 2.31 goals per game.
14. Ondrej Pavelec (vs. CBJ) – It has been tough sledding for Pav lately, he has not won a game since December 20, a streak of five straight losses. In those five losses he has allowed 18 goals while posting a paltry .852 SV%.
15. Thomas Greiss (vs. ANA) – Greiss has become one of the better spot-start options in Fantasy Hockey, but not with the Ducks in town.
16. Curtis McElhinney(@ WPG) – McElhinney has given up 16 goals in his last four starts (he had a shutout in that span), but takes on a Jets team who have lost four straight. You can take the leap of faith if you’re up to it.
17. Marek Mazanec (vs. OTT) – Mazanec is 5-6-1 with a 3.06 GAA and .896 SV% at home and the Senators are a quality side (10th ranked offence, 15th ranked PP)
18. Reto Berra (vs. PIT) – See Fleury, Marc-Andre… Should help make this decision a little easier.
