Jaroslav Halak signs a one-year deal with the Canucks

Shortly after buying out the final year of @Braden Holtby’s contract, the Canucks have found a new veteran goaltender — @Jaroslav Halak.
According to Frank Seravalli, Halak and the Canucks have agreed to a one-year deal worth $1,500,000.
Jaroslav Halak is indeed expected to join the #Canucks on a one-year deal.
Sounds like Halak will be on a performance bonus-based deal with a $1.5 mil AAV on the books. Structure:
$750k base sal
$750k sign bonus
$1.25m bonus at 10 GP
$250k w .905 SV% or⬆️@DFOHockey @Sportsnet

Holtby would have cost the Canucks $4,300,000 in 2021-22 but hit buyout will cost them $500,000 in 2021-22 and $1,900,000 in 2022-23. Adding Halak at $1,500,000 means that the Canucks have ultimately saved $2,300,000 on their backup goaltender for next season.
Halak has been in the NHL for 15 years now, going from Montreal to St. Louis to Washington to the Islanders and then to Boston. In 2021, Halak posted a .905 save percentage with the Bruins over the course of 19 games.
He’ll back up @Thatcher Demko, who broke out as Vancouver’s starting goaltender in 2021 and earned a five-year contract extension.
