Report: Stars’ Jason Robertson rejects eight-year contract offer from Kraken

Dallas Stars pending RFA forward Jason Robertson has reportedly turned down an enormous eight-year contract offer by the Seattle Kraken, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.
Robertson, 26, scored 45 goals and 96 points in 82 games with the Stars during the 2025-26 regular season. The 6’3″ winger is due a significant raise over his current $7.75 million cap hit. However, according to Friedman, the cap-strapped Stars are still offering at least $2 million below Robertson’s contract demands.
With the team and player still at an impasse, the Stars reportedly granted the Kraken permission to speak with Robertson about a potential deal. Friedman reported Thursday that the Kraken offered Robertson an eight-year deal at “approximately $15 million per year” — a figure more than double what any current Seattle player makes — but the Arcadia, Calif. product declined the offer.
Additionally, Friedman indicated that the Stars and Kraken had “worked out some kind of trade” around Robertson that would have seen Dallas receive Seattle’s own 2026 first-round pick, No. 7 overall, potentially among other assets — but it fell apart after the winger rejected Seattle’s contract overtures.
In the wake of Friedman’s report on Thursday, The Athletic insider Pierre LeBrun posted that the Stars have circled back to other teams that have previously shown interest in Robertson, while also “keeping dialogue open on trying to sign him.”
Frank Seravalli also reported that the Toronto Maple Leafs were also in talks with the Stars about flipping the seventh-overall pick they would have acquired in the trade with the Kraken to Toronto, and in return, the Leafs would send Matthew Knies as a way for Dallas to replace Robertson.
Since being drafted by Dallas with the No. 39 overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft, Robertson has developed into one of the league’s premier power wingers. The three-time 40-goal scorer has played a pivotal role in Dallas’s recent success, helping the team reach three consecutive Western Conference Finals between 2023 and 2025.
Through 456 career games over parts of seven seasons with the Stars, Robertson has collected 213 goals and 490 points; he’s added 23 goals and 52 points in 62 playoff contests. Midway through last season, he was controversially left off of Team USA’s roster for the 2026 Winter Olympics.
The Kraken have already been busy in the early stages of the 2026 offseason, acquiring winger Mackie Samoskevich from the Florida Panthers and re-signing pending UFA forward Bobby McMann to a new six-year contract. Acquiring Robertson would have given Seattle a much-needed jolt after a third consecutive non-playoff season.
