Jets pull record latest four-goal comeback in NHL history to end drought

If any Winnipeg Jets fans left the Bell Centre early to beat the traffic, you’re in for a rude awakening.
The Jets failed to score through 57:21 against the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday. But after Tyrel Bauer scored his first career goal, everything changed. The Jets ended up scoring three more goals to complete the latest four-goal comeback victory in NHL history.
The previous record was set on Nov. 10, 2007, when the Los Angeles Kings scored four goals against Dallas after the 52:46 mark.
According to the NHL, this is just the fourth time this has occured after the 50:00 mark, and just the first to have it happen in the final five minutes of a game.
Montreal looked in full control, with Owen Beck, Josh Anderson, Cole Caufield (twice) finding the back of the net. Bauer’s goal put an end to Jacob Fowler’s shutout effort, and, seemingly, that felt like the only thing the Jets could get excited about. Instead, Morgan Barron scored less than a minute later, and Kyle Connor made it a one-goal game at 19:00. Just 27 seconds later, Connor recorded his second of the night and 13th of the season, sending the game in overtime after the Jets scored four goals in 2:39 of regulation.
Winnipeg wouldn’t stop there. At 3:30 in overtime, Dylan Samberg’s snap shot would beat Fowler to give the Jets the stunning overtime victory, ending the team’s nine-game losing streak in the process. Their last win came on October 13, a 5-2 victory over Minnesota.
The Jets finished the game with a 47-22 shot advantage. Notably, this was Montreal’s first game with the club’s new Hometown Remix jersey.
The Jets will look to keep the momentum alive on Nov. 5 when the team hosts the Vancouver Canucks.
