John Tortorella defends Jared Bednar in wake of west final sweep

John Tortorella once again made some headlines for the postgame press conference in a series-closing game. However, unlike the second round, where he didn’t show up to take questions, he did show up after the Vegas Golden Knights swept the Colorado Avalanche.
Instead, he made headlines with his final remarks as he left the podium, telling the media to “get off Bedsy’s ass”. He was, of course, referring to fellow head coach Jared Bednar, who will likely draw some attention for the disappointing playoff exit, with some potential calls for his job.
Tyler Yaremchuk and Carter Hutton talked about Tortorella sticking up for Bednar as his job comes to question on Daily Faceoff Live.
Tyler Yaremchuk: Take it easy on Jared Bednar, says John Tortorella. We’ll see if the Colorado Avalanche listen to that because scrolling through Twitter, there are some Avs fans with spicy takes and firing Jared Bednar is just the start of it.
Carter Hutton: I know it is one of those things too. I guess in Bednar’s case, he’s been one of the guys that have survived the firing for a long, long time. But you get latched on to the right team, that’ll help.
So it will be interesting. I think Joe Sakic has some tough decisions to make. I think it starts with the general manager. What are you going to do there? And then it will work its way down.
But waking up today in Denver, Colorado, is not a good thing if you’re an NHL fan.
Tyler Yaremchuk: Nope. Not good at all.
And while we’re on the topic, Torts, of standing up for the coaching fraternity, can you maybe do a little something about that Bruce Cassidy situation as well? Not to bring that up again. Maybe Torts can pull some strings behind the scenes. Maybe Vegas will be in such a good mood that they’re going to the Stanley Cup Final, they’ll say, “Ah, okay, screw it, Bruce Cassidy can interview wherever the hell he wants.”
