Jonathan Goldbloom to step aside as chair of Hockey Canada’s board

A noted member of the hockey community is stepping down from his post.

On Tuesday, Hockey Canada announced that Jonathan Goldbloom will be leaving his position as chair of the Hockey Canada Board of Directors.

Goldbloom has chosen to step down from the position, effective Oct. 5, and has decided not to seek re-election to the board after his term expires in December.

“Serving on the Hockey Canada Board of Directors with my colleagues for nearly four years has been the privilege of a lifetime, and I am extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to work with so many people who have become lifelong friends,” Goldbloom said in a release. “Hockey Canada has come such a long way since our transition board of directors was elected in 2022, and I am confident that our Members, board and staff are well positioned to lead our National Winter Sport to unprecedented success.”

Goldbloom added that it’s the right time to seek out a new chair.

“It is the appropriate moment to have a new chair begin to lead the organization during the first year of the Olympic and Paralympic quadrennial, and this fall, I look forward to shifting my role to Team Canada’s #1 fan. Go Canada Go!”

Goldbloom joined Hockey Canada during a notable transition period in December 2022, as the organization was looking to start a new chapter following the controversial saga after five members of the 2018 Canadian National Junior Team were accused of sexual assault. He was elected to a three-year term as chair of the board in November 2023.

After Goldbloom’s time as chair comes to an end next month, the board will appoint an interim chair, who will hold the position until the 2026 Hockey Canada Annual Meeting, which is set to take place in Toronto on Dec. 5.
