Jordan Binnington will miss the rest of the Blues’ second-round series with the Avalanche

The St. Louis Blues will be without Jordan Binnington for at least the rest of the second round.

Blues head coach Craig Berube said on Sunday that Binnington is dealing with a lower-body injury and won’t return to the team’s series against the Colorado Avalanche. Berube said that it’s a possibility that Binnington could return later in the playoffs if the Blues advance.

Binnington left Game 3 on Saturday after Avalanche forward Nazem Kadri collided with him just a few minutes into the first period. Ville Husso came into the game in relief and allowed four goals on 23 shots. The Avalanche won by a score of 5-2 and now lead the series 2-1.

This is a big loss for St. Louis as Binnington had been a rock for them through the playoffs thus far. He posted a .943 save percentage in three wins over the Minnesota Wild in the first round and a .955 save percentage in three games against the Avs in the second round.

Husso will now be thrust back into the starting role for the Blues. He had a breakout season this year, putting up a .919 save percentage in 40 games during the regular season, but Husso only has four games of playoff experience in the NHL.

He posted a shutout against the Wild in Game 1 of the first round this year but lost the net after allowing nine goals between Games 2 and 3. All told, Husso has an .891 save percentage in the playoffs.
