Canadiens trade Joshua Roy to Mammoth for Maksymillian Szuber

The Montreal Canadiens have traded forward prospect Joshua Roy to the Utah Mammoth in exchange for defense prospect Maksymillian Szuber, TVA Sports’ Renaud Lavoie reported Monday morning.
Roy, 22, appeared in three NHL games with the Canadiens during the 2025-26 regular season. The 6′ right wing spent most of the year with the AHL’s Laval Rocket, collecting 23 goals and 45 points in 57 games; he added two goals in five Calder Cup Playoff contests.
Szuber, 23, spent the entirety of the 2025-26 season with the AHL’s Tucson Roadrunners. The 6’3″ left-shot defender amassed 11 goals and 27 points in 65 games with the Roadrunners in 2025-26; he appeared in his only NHL game to date with the Arizona Coyotes in the 2023-24 season.
Both Roy and Szuber are scheduled to become restricted free agents on July 1.

The Canadiens originally selected Roy in the fifth round (No. 150 overall) of the 2021 NHL Draft. A star with the QMJHL’s Saint John Sea Dogs and Sherbrooke Phoenix, Roy turned pro with Laval in 2023-24 and made his NHL debut with the Canadiens the same year.
In 38 NHL games with the Canadiens over parts of three seasons, Roy has racked up six goals, 11 points, and four penalty minutes. The Saint-Georges-De-Beauce, Que. product is now due a qualifying offer from Utah before Monday’s 5 p.m. ET deadline.
Similarly, Szuber will need to be tendered an offer by Montreal before that time. A sixth-round pick (No. 163 overall) of the Coyotes in 2022, Szuber came up through the EHC Munich system in the DEL before coming to North America for the 2023-24 season.
The Opole, Poland product has been one of the most consistent defenders in Tucson over the past three seasons, racking up 25 goals and 87 points in 200 games while logging significant minutes under head coach Steve Potvin. He should compete for a depth spot on a crowded Canadiens blue line at the club’s 2026 training camp.
