Mammoth sign Kailer Yamamoto to two-year contract extension

The Utah Mammoth have signed pending unrestricted free agent forward Kailer Yamamoto to a two-year contract extension, the club announced Monday afternoon.
Yamamoto, 27, skated in 59 games with the Mammoth during the 2025-26 regular season, collecting 13 goals and 23 points. The 5’9″ right wing added one goal and five points in six playoff games with the club.
According to the Mammoth, Yamamoto’s new contract carries a $1.75 million annual cap hit through the end of the 2027-28 season, at which point he will again be scheduled to become a UFA.
“Kailer is a versatile forward that wins battles and can produce offense for us,” Utah general manager Bill Armstrong said Monday. “Kailer is important to our team and we are thrilled that he will return to the Mammoth.”

Utah originally signed Yamamoto as a free agent on Oct. 6, 2024. He spent most of the 2024-25 season with the AHL’s Tucson Roadrunners, collecting 20 goals and 56 points in 54 games, but also appeared in 12 games with Utah during its inaugural campaign.
A first-round pick (No. 22 overall) of the Edmonton Oilers in the 2017 NHL Draft, Yamamoto spent parts of six seasons in Edmonton to begin his NHL career. He topped out with 20 goals and 41 points in 81 games with the 2021-22 Oilers, adding two goals and seven points in 14 playoff games that spring.
After the 2022-23 season, the Oilers traded Yamamoto and Klim Kostin to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for future considerations. The Red Wings subsequently bought out Yamamoto’s contract, freeing up the Spokane, Wash. product to sign a one-year deal with the Seattle Kraken; he scored eight goals and 16 points in 59 games with Seattle in 2023-24 before leaving for Utah as a free agent.
Through 374 career NHL games over parts of nine seasons with Edmonton, Seattle, and Utah, Yamamoto has collected 73 goals and 160 points. He’s added four goals and 17 points in 40 career playoff contests with the Oilers and Mammoth.
