The NHL Draft begins Wednesday in Nashville, Tennessee and with all the buzz around Connor Bedard and the prospects, there’s also been a whopping amount of trade speculation and extension talk. With the Toronto Maple Leafs trying to lock up William Nylander on an extension, he could be one player to watch says Daily Faceoff president Frank Seravalli. Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk broke it all down on Daily Faceoff Live

Tyler Yaremchuk: We are calling it “Blockbuster Watch” Frank, teams that might be doing something spicy. You’ve mentioned the Blues before so we will set them off to the side, the obvious candidates are Calgary and Winnipeg we know both of them want to be active. We know the Flyers want to be active as they kickstart this rebuild a bit. But, give me your off-the-radar GM who is lurking around the streets of Nashville and maybe looking to make a big splash this week.

Frank Seravalli: I have my eyes on the Toronto Maple Leafs and what happens this week with William Nylander. Brad Treliving is pushing hard for to get a Nylander contract extension done or at least a perimeters of an extension so he can move on to other business. That’s their first preference and priority, however, I will tell you that if Treliving finds there is no path forward or talks have reached a dead end and there’s going to be no way to get things done, I don’t want to speak in absolutes but I would say If it got to that point, and I have no indication if it’s there or even close, that he wouldn’t be afraid to move him.

I think that’s a tough guy to go into the year with not having an extension done and this is one of those periods now until July 5th really reinvent your team and do something different if that’s the path you want to go down. As I said, the priority and preference is to get William Nylander signed and get Auston Matthews signed. But, Nylander in particular has been down this road before, the first time around his negation wasn’t that easy, a different reigeme, but he’s going to be expensive. In the back of my head, I have a sneaky sort of thing saying to keep William Nylander in mind as you see things begin to advance. They to my knowledge have not engaged in any trade discussions at all. First are foremost, get Nylander signed. My question is what happens when you run into a roadblock?
