Kraken place Vince Dunn on LTIR, call up Cale Fleury from AHL

The Seattle Kraken did some roster shuffling to address a hole in their lineup.
On Monday, the team announced it had placed defenseman Vince Dunn on long-term injured reserve with what is listed as a mid-body injury. In response, the Kraken called up D-man Cale Fleury from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Coachella Valley Firebirds.

Dunn has already been banged up a little bit this season. He was listed day-to-day with an upper-body injury that caused him to miss Seattle’s game against the Dallas Stars on Oct. 13. He returned the following game, but seemed to have been hurt again this past Thursday against the Philadelphia Flyers, leading to Dunn being left out of the lineup against the Calgary Flames on Saturday.

With Dunn’s placement on LTIR retroactive to Oct. 17, the earliest he could return to the lineup would be on Nov. 12 against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
In four games thus far, Dunn has two points, including a goal against the St. Louis Blues in the team’s season-opening loss on Oct. 8. The 27-year-old has a plus/minus of -2 whilst averaging 18:49 of ice time.
It has been a rough seven months for Dunn. The Mississauga native missed 19 of the final 21 games at the end of the 2023-24 season with what was revealed to be a neck injury. Many believe the former Blue’s absence was critical in the Kraken missing the playoffs for the second time in the franchise’s history. In 59 games last year, Dunn scored 11 goals and 35 assists, ending up third on the team in scoring with 46 points.
This is Fleury’s first call-up to the NHL this season as he looks to get into the lineup for just the second time in the last two seasons. The 25-year-old last played for the Kraken on April 5, 2024, after playing nine games for the club during the 2022-23 campaign.
The Kraken (4-2-0) are tied for second in the Pacific Division, and are scheduled to face the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday night.
