Leo Carlsson is starting to break out for the Ducks

The Anaheim Ducks are one of the stories of the NHL season so far, as they own a 7-3-1 record and sit in first place in the Pacific Division with 15 points.
The Ducks have spent years assembling a core of young, talented players, and the group seems to finally be taking the big leap toward playoff contention this year. No player has had a bigger role in this ascension so far than center Leo Carlsson.
The team’s No. 2 overall pick from the 2023 NHL Draft has 16 points through 11 games to go with a plus-7 rating while serving as the team’s first-line pivot. After 29 points in 55 games as a rookie and 45 points in 76 games in his sophomore campaign, Carlsson seems to be taking a legitimate week toward superstardom.
On Monday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, host Tyler Yaremchuk and co-host and former NHL goaltender Carter Hutton were joined by Daily Faceoff Managing Fantasy Editor Brock Seguin to discuss Carlsson’s breakout and what it means for the Ducks moving forward.
Carter Hutton: What do you have for us for a stat?
Brock Seguin: Coming into the season the Ducks were a pretty trendy breakout pick, playoff pick, and some of their players… Cutter Gauthier’s getting a lot of fanfare right now, but I don’t think enough people are talking about Leo Carlsson. He’s on a six-game point streak right now with 10 points during that stretch, but it’s more impressive than that. If you pull back the layers a little bit, if you go all the way back to February of last season, Carlsson had 29 points in his last 31 games last year. So when you combine that with his 16 points in his first 11 games from this season, Carlsson has 16 goals, 29 assist, 45 points in his last 42 games. That is tied for 19th in the NHL during that stretch.
