Where does Leon Draisaitl end up in all-time scoring?

Leon Draisaitl entered Tuesday’s game against between the Edmonton Oilers and Pittsburgh Penguins just one point away from 1,000 in his career. It should come as no surprise that Draisaitl, who already has 289 career multi-point games in his career, blew past the 1,000-point mark with four assists on the night, putting him at 1,003 points for his career.
Getting to 1,000 points in just 824 games played, the Oilers superstar became the third fastest active NHLer to reach the milestone, behind teammate Connor McDavid and Penguins captain Sidney Crosby. For Draisaitl, the most impressive thing might not be what he’s accomplished so far, but what he’s on pace to accomplish in the future. The German national’s 1.217 points per game ranks 13th all-time, and he’s shown no signs of slowing down in recent years. At still only 30 years old, Draisaitl could find himself in some lofty statistical company when all is said and done.
On Wednesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and former NHL goaltender Carter Hutton discussed Draisaitl’s incredible scoring pace, and what that means for his career projections.
Tyler Yaremchuk: Where does he end up in terms of all-time NHL scorers? I think one of the really important things about Draisaitl, very similar to Alex Ovechkin, Draisaitl hasn’t been hurt all that often in his career. If he can keep that going, there is a ceiling here for this guy that is potentially top five in all-time NHL scoring.
I crunched the numbers, Hutts. Over the last four years, he’s been at an 112-point pace. Looking at his age-30 to his age-35 seasons, if he can average 100 points per year for the next five seasons, which, I think we’d both agree, a 10 percent drop off in production from the prime of his career is not crazy. If he can average 100 points a year for the next five, and then if he can average 70 points a year for five years after that, we’re talking about a guy who’s going to be on the doorstep of 1,900 points, which only two other players in the history of the sport have done. Now, Sid and McDavid will get there before he does, but if he stays healthy, this is a guy who’s probably getting top ten all-time in NHL scoring.
