Logan Cooley not in a rush to extend with Mammoth

The Utah Mammoth have one of the most exciting collections of young, talented forwards that any team in the NHL has to offer, and one player with the upside to take the group to the next level is young center Logan Cooley.
Cooley, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, put up 65 points in 75 games this season, with all signs pointing toward a massive breakout in 2025-26. He has just one point through the team’s first four games this season, but with the talent in the top six, there’s no concern that the young American won’t be a productive player this year.
As many young players around the league have signed major contract extensions recently, Cooley is one of the next in line to make a call on what he wants his second contract to look like given what he means to the Mammoth moving forward.
On Thursday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, host Tyler Yaremchuk and co-host and former NHL goaltender Carter Hutton were joined by NHL insider David Pagnotta to discuss why Cooley will be patient when it comes to finalizing his second contract.
Tyler Yaremchuk: Earlier this week you had [Logan Cooley’s agent] Brian Bartlett on the show. What can you tell us about Cooley and potential extension talks with the Utah Mammoth?
David Pagnotta: Yeah, he was pretty open about those discussions. Obviously, a report coming out that he had turned down a deal. He didn’t get into the nitty gritty of that, but he did make it seem like there’s zero concern on either side to rush into a deal. We’ve seen some players out of ELCs locking in to long-term extensions. They don’t necessarily feel they need to do that right now, and they’re going to let Logan take the time to ultimately decide what he wants to do.
