Look for the Detroit Red Wings to think big during draft week

The Detroit Red Wings spent most of the season on the bubble for a playoff spot after several seasons of irrelevance. Though they resigned themselves to their fate by dealing Tyler Bertuzzi and Filip Hronek at the trade deadline, the Red Wings and GM Steve Yzerman are not far away from wrapping up their lengthy rebuild. On Tuesday’s edition of Daily Faceoff Live, Bally Sports’ Pete Blackburn joined hosts Tyler Yaremchuk and Frank Seravalli to discuss some names Yzerman could target in the coming days.
Tyler Yaremchuk: There’s usually a lot going on in these next couple days, Pete. Give me one team that makes you think: “that GM has the chance to make things spicy on the draft floor.”
Pete Blackburn: You guys have spoken a lot about the Winnipeg Jets. Obviously that’s an intriguing team with all the links and players trying to move on.
One of the teams I think is really interesting is the Detroit Red Wings because of how much capital they have. They have been so patient about rebuilding their team, but at some point they have to make their move and be aggressive. There are a couple of guys out on the market that they are very interested in.
DeBrincat’s at the top of that list, but what about William Nylander if he becomes available? He would make a lot of sense in Detroit, and they have the assets to go get him. Detroit is a team that can make a big splash if they really want to in the next 48 hours.
