Report: Kings, Adrian Kempe agree to eight-year contract extension

The Los Angeles Kings are reportedly set to lock in a key piece of their core for the next eight seasons following this one.
According to a report from SportsNet’s Elliotte Friedman, the Kings are closing in on an eight-year contract extension with forward Adrian Kempe.
Friedman reported that the deal will come with a price tag of $10.625 million on an annual basis, for a total of $85 million.

— Elliotte Friedman (@FriedgeHNIC) November 16, 2025The 29-year-old winger from Sweden has firmly entrenched himself as an integral part of the Los Angeles forward core, as he’s had at least 67 points in each of the past three seasons while bringing a strong two-way element to his game.
The No. 29 overall pick in the first round of the 2014 NHL Draft, Kempe first broke into the NHL in the 2016-17 season and emerged as a strong depth piece before taking a big offensive leap after the turn of the decade.
Kempe racked up 73 points in 81 games played last year to follow up a career-best 2023-24 campaign in which he put up 75 points in 77 contests.
The six-foot-two forward has regularly raised his level in the Stanley Cup Playoffs as well. Despite four straight series losses to Edmonton in the first round, Kempe has 29 points in 24 games in those series.
Kempe’s extension marks a continuation of a league-wide trend in which star players who were set to be unrestricted free agents re-up with their current clubs. Connor McDavid, Jack Eichel, Kirill Kaprizov and Martin Necas have all signed massive deals, and Kempe had become the presumptive top free agent forward prior to this deal getting done.
Kempe has started this season off well as the Kings look to move toward a fifth straight playoff appearance. In 19 games, he’s put up 19 points as Los Angeles has ridden a four-game winning streak to a 10-5-4 record and first place in the Pacific Division.
