On the same day it was announced Corey Perry would make his Los Angeles Kings debut Tuesday night against the St. Louis Blues, the team announced that forward Anze Kopitar has been placed on injured reserve (IR).

Kopitar has been out since Oct. 13 after blocking a shot against the Minnesota Wild. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported that Kopitar would be out week-to-week with a foot injury. Before he was out of the lineup, Kopitar had missed just four regular-season games since the 2017-18 season.

Through four games, Kopitar, 38, had four assists in four games. During training camp, the Kings’ captain announced that 2025-26 would be his final NHL season.

Last year, Kopitar, a native of Jesenice, Slovenia, recorded 21 goals and 46 assists for 67 points, which was in line with his career average of 72. Through 20 NHL seasons, he’s scored 440 goals and recorded 842 assists for 1,282 points in 1,458 games, all with Los Angeles.

Kopitar has also played in 103 career playoff games, scoring 27 goals and adding 62 assists for 89 points. He was a major factor in the Kings’ two Stanley Cup championships in 2012 and 2014, recording 20 and 26 points, respectively.

Taken No. 11 overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Kopitar is among the greatest in Kings’ franchise history, placing first in both games played and assists, third in goals and second in points.

Los Angeles is 1-3-2 with four points through their first six games of 2025-26, currently sixth in the Pacific Division. They will face the St. Louis Blues Tuesday night, where as mentioned earlier, Perry will make his debut with the club.
