An experienced blueliner looks to be heading back to the minors.

On Saturday, the Los Angeles Kings placed defenseman Kyle Burroughs on waivers, making him available to the other 31 teams in the NHL.

Burroughs had started the 2025-26 season on injured reserve after suffering an upper-body injury during the preseason. The 30-year-old blocked a shot in a game against the Utah Mammoth on Sept. 30 and hasn’t seen any action since.

If he clears waivers on Sunday, he will be eligible to be sent down to the Kings’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Ontario Reign. It would be the first time since the 2021 season, when he was part of the Colorado Avalanche organization, that Burroughs had been in the minors.

The Vancouver native spent the entire 2024-25 season with the Kings, though he was a healthy scratch for a lot of the campaign. He dressed in 33 games, registering three assists, with a plus/minus of +3 while averaging just 7:49 of ice time per game.

Burroughs is in the third and final season of his current contract, which he signed with the San Jose Sharks in July 2023. However, he was on the move after just one season, as the Sharks traded him to the Kings for Carl Grundstrom in June 2024. This, despite Burroughs mustering up a career-high eight points in 73 games, the most he has played in a single season in his NHL career.

Across five NHL seasons, which include a two-year stay with the Vancouver Canucks, Burroughs has appeared in 201 games, scoring five goals and 17 assists for 22 points. In 333 AHL appearances, both regular-season and playoffs, he has posted 19 goals and 72 assists for 91 points.

The Kings (5-3-4) are set to host the New Jersey Devils on Saturday. The Reign (5-2-1-0) are visiting the San Jose Barracuda.
