A young and rising player in Hollywood has received a nice pay bump.

According to multiple reports, the Los Angeles Kings are going to sign forward Alex Laferriere to a three-year contract extension. The deal will carry an AAV of $4.1 million through the 2027-28 season.

According to PuckPedia, Laferriere will make $3.5 million in the first year of the contract, while making $4.4 million in the final two. He will still be a restricted free agent at the end of the contract, one year away from becoming an unrestricted free agent.

Laferriere was coming off his three-year, entry-level contract that he signed with the Kings in April 2023. That deal had a cap hit of $875,000.

The Chatham, New Jersey native, who was taken by the Kings in the third round, 83rd overall, of the 2020 NHL Draft, had his best season of his young NHL career during the 2024-25 campaign. Despite being sidelined a few games due to injury, he scored a career-high 19 goals and 23 assists for 42 points in 77 games. Laferriere also notched an impressive plus/minus rating of +22 while averaging 16:32 of ice time per game.

He also posted three assists during the Kings’ first-round series against the Edmonton Oilers, with Los Angeles ultimately losing in six games.

The performance came after a promising rookie season, where the Harvard product notched 23 points in 81 games, scoring a goal and an assist in the playoffs. In 158 total regular-season affairs, the 23-year-old has posted 31 goals and 34 assists for 65 points.

A strong winger with a knack for scoring in a variety of ways, Laferriere has the potential to be a key player as the Kings continue to try to rise up the ranks in the very competitive Western Conference.

With the signing, the Kings will have just under $3.5 million in projected cap space for the 2025-26 season, according to CapWages.
