The Ottawa Senators have acquired defenseman Jordan Spence from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for a 2025 third-round draft pick plus a 2026 sixth rounder, reports Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli.

Through 79 appearances with the Kings in 2024-25, Spence tallied four goals and 24 assists for 28 points coupled with 16 penalty minutes and a plus-23 rating. Spence then added one more point in five postseason outings.

Originally chosen by the Kings in the fourth round of the 2019 NHL Draft, Spence has since skated in 180 career contests in which he has collected eight goals and 53 assists for 61 points. Spence has also added two points in 13 games in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Per PuckPedia, Spence is entering the second year of a two-year contract that carries a $1.5-million average annual value. Spence can become a restricted free agent following the coming campaign.

Born in Australia, Spence played his formative hockey in Canada, including three seasons split between the QMJHL’s Moncton Wildcats and Val-d’Or Foreurs. With the Wildcats in 2019-20, Spence was presented with the Emile Bouchard Trophy as the QMJHL’s Defenseman of the Year after he registered 52 points counting nine goals and 43 assists in 60 games. The prior season, Spence claimed the Raymond Lagace Trophy as the QMJHL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year after he put up 49 points in 68 games as a freshman.

Spence joins a Senators squad whose blue line is headlined by 22-year-old Montana-born rearguard Jake Sanderson who in 2024-25 notched 57 points in 80 games in his third season with the club. The Senators closed out the season with a 45-30-7 showing, good for 97 points and the club’s first appearance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs since 2017. The Senators were later eliminated by the Atlantic Division rival Toronto Maple Leafs in a six-game opening round set.
