Los Angeles Kings head coach Jim Hiller announced that forward Warren Foegele will miss Tuesday’s game against the San Jose Sharks with an upper-body injury, and will “miss some time”. The length of Foegele’s absence is still undetermined.

Foegele left Sunday’s 3-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks early after taking a hit in the corner from Chicago’s Nick Foligno, clearly favoring his right arm as he went to the dressing room.

Foegele is in the second season of a three-year, $10.5 million deal with the Kings. In ten games so far this season, he’s scored just one goal with zero assists.

Last season, the Markham, Ont. native had a career-best campaign, playing all 82 regular-season games for Los Angeles and putting up 24 goals and 22 assists for 46 points. He also contributed a goal and two assists in the Kings’ first-round playoff loss to the Edmonton Oilers.

Drafted in the third round of the 2014 Draft by the Carolina Hurricanes, Foegele spent his first three full NHL seasons in Carolina. His best season as a Hurricane came in 2019-20, when he scored 13 goals and 17 assists for 30 points in 68 games played.

Prior to the 2021-22 season, Carolina traded Foegele to Edmonton in exchange for defenseman Ethan Bear. Foegele spent three years with the Oilers, with the third being his semi-breakout, scoring 20 goals and 21 assists for 41 points over 82 games in 2023-24.

This will be the first game action Foegele misses since the 2022-23 season, as he’s played all 82 games each of the last two years.

The Kings have gotten off to a solid start this season, having earned 11 points in 10 games and sitting third in the Pacific Division. After playing the Sharks on Tuesday, Los Angeles will begin a four-game homestand starting with the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday.
