The Blackhawks acquired the reigning Vezina Trophy winner from Vegas in exchange for a low-level prospect back in late July as the Golden Knights were seeking to open up cap space.
Fleury wasn’t told of the trade and revealed that he learned he had been moved on Twitter. Fleury’s agent, Allan Walsh, said that he would take some time to decide whether he would keep playing or not.
The 2021 season was arguably the best of Fleury’s Hall of Fame career. He played in 36 games for the Golden Knights, splitting the team’s net with @Robin Lehner, and posted a career-best .928 save percentage. Fleury edged out Tampa Bay’s Andrei Vasilevskiy in Vezina voting for the league’s top goaltender, with 108 vote points in comparison to Vasilevskiy’s 99.
Having Fleury could be a major game-changer for Chicago, who finished 24th in the league in 2021 in terms of goals against. Their three goaltenders, @Kevin Lankinen, @Malcolm Subban, and @Collin Delia, combined to post a .906 save percentage.
