Mark Borowiecki receives three-game suspension

For the second time in less than a week, Ottawa Senators blueliner Mark Borowiecki has been suspended.

Borowiecki has been handed a three-game suspension without pay for an illegal check to the head of Vegas Golden Knights forward Cody Eakin.

The incident occurred during the first period of Ottawa’s overtime loss to Vegas on Sunday. Borowiecki caught Eakin with a blatant hit to the head. He was assessed a major penalty for charging and a game misconduct on the play.

Borowiecki was playing in just his first game back after serving a one-game suspension for an elbow on Boston Bruins defenceman Urho Vaakanainen.

Borowiecki is considered a repeat offender and will forfeit US$43,902.45.

In nine games with the Senators this season, the 29-year-old is pointless with a minus-4 rating.
