In the dying minutes of Game 1, Evans picked up the puck deep in Winnipeg’s zone and tucked it into the open net, as Connor Hellebuyck had been pulled for the extra attacker. As Evans was putting the puck in the net, Schiefele came at him full speed and drilled him with a charge. A scrum ensued as Evans laid on the ice.
Given the fact Scheifele’s hearing was not in person, it was known that the maximum suspension he could be handed was five games. This is the first time in Scheifele’s career that he’s been suspended.
On Thursday, Canadiens head coach Dominique Ducharme confirmed that Evans suffered a concussion and would miss an undetermined amount of time.
“He’s certainly going to miss time, we’re not sure how much time,” Ducharme said.
