Matthew Schaefer, Porter Martone highlight inagural OHL Top Prospect Game rosters

The Ontario Hockey League (OHL) announced the rosters for the upcoming Connor McDavid OHL Top Prospects Game presented by Enbridge Gas on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.

Rosters are highlighted by top prospects Matthew Schaefer and Porter Martone, who will represent the Eastern and Western Conference respectively.

The rosters were selected by a committee that included representatives from NHL Central Scouting with input from NHL General Managers along with OHL General Managers.

Among notable players on the Eastern Conference squad are Porter Martone, Jake O’Brien, Kashawn Atchieson, Jack Ivankovic, David Egorov and Josh Avery. The OHL’s Brantford Bulldogs have three players representing the East, giving them the most among OHL clubs.

Martone has tallied 20 goals and 30 assists for 50 points in 24 games with the Brampton Steelheads this season. Martone leads the OHL in assists and points. Martone was one of a number of OHL players in this showcase event who recently participated in the CHL vs. NDTP matchup, which saw the CHL win the series 2-0.

On the Western squad, they are highlighted by Matthew Schaefer, Michael Misa, Malcolm Spence and Brady Martin. Schaefer has become a dominant prospect, racking up 18 points in 14 games this season. Misa has racked up 25 goals and 24 assists for 49 points in 25 games, he ranks second leaguewide behind Martone.

Both Martone and Schaefer were recently named to Canada’s World Junior selection camp roster. The draft-eligible prospects are ranked No. 2 and No. 4 respectively on Daily Faceoff prospect analyst Steven Ellis’ latest rankings.
