McKenna’s Matchup of the Day: Dec. 22 – Daniel Vladar vs. Pheonix Copley

Former NHL netminder Mike McKenna provides his Daily Faceoff Starting Goalie Matchup of the Day for Thu. Dec. 22, 2022:
Why I like this matchup:
Copley has given the Kings life since being called up from the AHL. And Vladar is 4-0-1 in his last five outings for the Flames.
What to watch for:
Two of the best goaltenders in the NHL during the month of December going head-to-head. And what it comes down to is consistency. Copley and Vladar haven’t had to steal games for their respective teams. But each goalkeeper has largely kept the opposition to two or fewer goals. That’s a recipe for success with teams like the Flames and Kings, which have plenty of firepower.
Copley is a little more precise in his movements than Vladar, but the Calgary backstop has a slight height advantage and greater hip flexibility. The two goalies are a fun contrast. Copley’s skating routes and movements are automatic from years of repetition. At the same time, Vladar’s footwork is still growing into his size.
What fantasy owners should do:
Start them both. Copley has been a great pickup for fantasy owners. And Vladar has provided value in a secondary role.
Bottom line for Daniel Vladar:
Get back on track: last time out against Toronto, Vladar allowed five goals on 34 shots.
Bottom line for Pheonix Copley:
If he keeps winning, the Kings net belongs to him.
