Mammoth’s Mikhail Sergachev out day-to-day with lower-body injury

The Utah Mammoth have announced that defenseman Mikhail Sergachev is day-to-day with a lower-body injury and will not play in Thursday’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Sergachev, 27, has 10 goals and 42 points while averaging 24:19 of ice time in 61 games with the Mammoth this season. The 6’3″ left-shot defenseman is under contract through 2031 at an $8.5 million annual cap hit.
In a corresponding move earlier on Thursday, the Mammoth recalled top defensive prospect Dmitri Simashev from the AHL’s Tucson Roadrunners.
While Simashev is expected to be in the lineup against the Flyers, the Mammoth will not have access to newly-acquired defenseman MacKenzie Weegar, who is still working through the immigration process after being traded by the Calgary Flames on Wednesday.

Sergachev is in the midst of his second season in Utah, having been acquired from the Tampa Bay Lightning at the 2024 NHL Draft in exchange for J.J. Moser, Conor Geekie, and two draft picks.
The Montreal Canadiens originally selected Sergachev in the first round (No. 9 overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft, but he played in just four games with his draft club in the 2016-17 season before being dealt to the Lightning. He remained with the Bolts for the following seven seasons, helping them win the Stanley Cup in both 2020 and 2021.
Through 613 career NHL games over parts of 10 seasons with Montreal, Tampa Bay, and Utah, Sergachev has collected 73 goals, 352 points, and 350 penalty minutes. He’s added nine goals and 34 points in 100 playoff contests with the Lightning.
Entering Thursday’s action, the Mammoth currently occupy the first wild card playoff spot in the Western Conference with a 32-25-4 record and 68 points through 61 games this season. Their plus-24 goal differential is the fourth-best in the West.
