On Friday, the Minnesota Frost announced that the team has signed goaltender Marlène Boissonnault to a one-year standard player agreement for the 2025-26 season.

The Frost is the second team Boissonnault has been a part of since the PWHL opened up play two seasons ago. She started off on the main roster of Montreal, but never saw any game action behind Ann-Renée Desbiens and Elaine Chuli. The Dundee, New Brunswick native was cut during training camp last year, as the Victoire ultimately went with Sandra Abstreiter as their third goaltender.

Boissonnault found her way to St. Paul in March, when the Frost added her to their reserve list in March after Minnesota’s previous third-stringer, Lucy Morgan, was signed by the Ottawa Charge. Boissonnault once again didn’t see the ice, as Maddie Rooney and Nicole Hensley backstopped the team to a second straight Walter Cup.

“I’m thrilled to be returning to Minnesota this upcoming season,” Boissonnault said in a release. “This organization has become home, and winning the Walter Cup with this group was something I’ll never forget. I can’t wait to build on that and get back in front of our amazing fans.”

Prior to the PWHL, the 28-year-old spent parts of four seasons in the PWHPA with Calgary and Team Harvey’s. She also had a fruitful college career at Cornell University, leaving the school as the second-winningest goaltender in program history, earning 56 wins over her four years with the Big Red.

It’s interesting to see the Frost have three goaltenders signed to their main roster heading into next season, with Hensley on the books for one more year and Rooney having signed a three-year extension. The two-time defending champions have almost never had three netminders signed to SPAs at the same time.

With the signing of Boissonnault, the Frost have 18 of a possible 23 players signed to standard contracts for next season. So far, they have signed just two of their six draft picks, as Kendall Cooper and Abby Hustler have agreed to two-year deals.
