The Minnesota Wild will be without a pair of key contributors when they take on the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Monday night.

Head coach John Hynes told reporters after the team’s morning skate that both center Marco Rossi and veteran defenseman Zach Bogosian have been ruled out for the game and are considered day-to-day with lower-body injuries.

Rossi, who was a subject of trade and contract speculation all summer, wound up returning to the team that picked him No. 9 overall in the 2020 NHL Draft. He’s produced well this year with a goal and four assists for five points through six games. In Rossi’s absence, the Wild are projected to have Joel Eriksson-Ek, Ryan Hartman, Danil Yurov and Ben Jones as their four centers.

Bogosian, a 35-year-old veteran of 18 seasons, is in his third campaign with the Wild. So far this season, he’s skated an average of 13:53 through his five appearances while posting a plus-5 rating.

The Wild are off to a 2-3-1 start to their season, and they’ve hit a rough patch on their current road trip, dropping games in Dallas, Washington and Philadelphia to start a five-game road trip.

Minnesota will have a chance to create NHL history on Monday, as if they can hold the Rangers scoreless for the first 7:19 of tonight’s game, New York will set the record for the longest scoreless streak on home ice to start a season.

The Rangers have been shut out for three entire games at home to this point, which is a record already from the game standpoint, but the 1928 Pittsburgh Pirates went longer without a home goal in terms of time.

Goalie Filip Gustavsson will get the nod between the pipes for Minnesota, meaning he’ll be tasked with trying to ensure New York breaks that record, but more importantly with snapping his team’s losing streak.
