Wild bring back classic jersey for 25th anniversary for select games

One of the sleekest sweaters of all time is making a comeback.

On Thursday, the Minnesota Wild announced that the team will introduce special jerseys for its 25th anniversary season. The uniforms will look familiar to many, as they resemble the original outfit the team donned when it first joined the National Hockey League in 2000.

The team rocked the green-shouldered jerseys with the franchise’s “bear” logo well past the 2004-05 lockout. Even when many teams around the league rebranded when the Reebok Edge jerseys were introduced in 2007, Minnesota kept some form of its original look (for the white sweaters at least) through the 2013 campaign.

It was in those jerseys that Minnesota really burst onto the scene during the 2002-03 season, when the team upset Patrick Roy and the Colorado Avalanche in the franchise’s first-ever Stanley Cup Playoff appearance. The Wild made it all the way to the Western Conference Final before losing to the eventual runners-up, the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.

While wearing their original uniforms, Minnesota made it to the postseason four times, winning just the two playoff series in the organization’s third year of existence. The Wild won its first, and so far only, division title in 2007-08, finishing atop the old Northwest Division, before being on the other end of an upset against the Avs.

Fans in the State of Hockey will get a chance to see the retro sweaters in action four times during the 2025-26 season. They’ll suit up in the old-school look against the Winnipeg Jets on Oct. 28, as well as when facing the Nashville Predators on Nov. 4. The Avalanche will get to be opposite of the jerseys on Dec. 21, before the Florida Panthers come to town on Jan. 24.

Each of those nights will be special 25th anniversary nights, where fans can partake in various giveaways and other entertainment.
