The Minnesota Wild got one back Sunday night, beating the Colorado Avalanche 5-1 in Game 3 of their second-round series.

Jesper Wallstedt, who was benched in Game 2 after giving up eight goals in Game 1, returned to the Wild crease and made 35 saves in Minnesota’s win, looking more like the star netminder that shined through the 2025-26 regular season.

“It’s very easy when you just play, play, play, and you don’t practice much,” Wallstedt told reporters after the game. “You get out there in morning skate just to get to feel some pucks, but you’re never really working on details. And I think there was some stuff I had to look at, and some stuff I could improve on, and I felt like those days gave me that.”

On Monday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and former NHL video coach Steve Peters discuss the Wild’s Game 3 win and if they can turn the tide in this best-of-seven series.

Tyler Yaremchuk: An early offensive burst by Minnesota fuels their win to cut the series deficit in half. I guess the question is: Did they do enough in this 5-1 win to convince you to win this series? They need to win three of the next four to move on.

Steve Peters: They did show you that they can compete with the Avalanche, and after what happened in the first two games, getting outscored 14-8, you thought they couldn’t slow down the offense.

But we said this before Game 3: Jesper Wallstedt is going to have to be the difference. His bounceback after hitting the reset button was terrific. He limited Colorado to just one goal, which is very difficult to do.

But you have to beat the Avalanche in three of four games. If you can add one of the injured Joel Eriksson Ek or Jonas Brodin, it’s like adding a player at the Trade Deadline, it gives you a boost and something to grab on to.
