The Minnesota Wild have moved veteran defenseman Zach Bogosian to injured reserve and have recalled forward Hunter Haight to fill the open roster spot, the team announced Tuesday.

Bogosian has been out with a lower-body injury since blocking a shot in last Friday’s 5-1 loss to the Washington Capitals.

Moving Bogosian to IR allows Minnesota to recall Haight from the AHL’s Iowa Wild, a young centre who will help fill in for the absence of Marco Rossi, who’s been out with a lower-body injury himself since blocking a shot in Saturday’s 2-1 overtime loss to the Philadelphia Flyers.

Haight was drafted by the Wild in the second round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. He had a strong junior career split between the OHL’s Barrie Colts and Saginaw Spirit, capped by an impressive final season in Saginaw, where he tallied 25 goals and 42 assists for 67 points in 68 games.

After playing full-time in the AHL last season, where he put up 20 goals and 14 assists for 34 points in 67 games, Haight has played two games for the Wild this season, marking his first NHL action. He is still looking for his first NHL point.

As for Bogosian, he is currently in the second season of a two-year, $2.5 million contract with Minnesota. The journeyman was a reliable presence on the Wild’s blueline last season, playing 81 games and racking up 80 blocks and 81 hits in just over 15 minutes of ice time per game. This IR designation doesn’t necessarily suggest a long absence for the 18-year vet, but it does mean he won’t be eligible to return to Minnesota’s lineup until next Saturday’s home game against the Utah Mammoth.

The Wild will visit the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday, and then return to Minnesota for a six-game homestand starting with that Saturday game against Utah.
