The Montreal Canadiens will be without forward Brendan Gallagher for a minimum of six weeks as he recovers from a lower-body injury, the club announced Wednesday.

Gallagher, 30, has four goals and nine points in 25 games with the Canadiens this season. He last played (and scored a goal) on January 3 against the Nashville Predators.

Gallagher has already missed significant time (16 games) with multiple injuries this season. He joins Sean Monahan, Mike Matheson, Kaiden Guhle, Paul Byron, and Carey Price currently on the shelf in Montreal.

The Canadiens originally selected Gallagher in the fifth round (No. 147 overall) of the 2010 NHL Draft. The 5’9″ forward made his NHL debut with the Canadiens in 2012–13 and scored more than 30 goals in both the 2017–18 and 2018–19 seasons.

Gallagher had a bit of a tough go with the Canadiens in 2021–22, recording seven goals and 24 points in just 56 games. He’s dealt with numerous injuries since signing his current six-year contract with the Canadiens back in 2020.

Through 663 career games over parts of 11 regular seasons with the Canadiens, Gallagher has scored 198 goals and 390 points. He’s added 13 goals and 31 points in 71 playoff contests.

The Canadiens are set to embark upon a stretch of four games in six nights beginning with a home game against the Predators on Thursday. Based on his current injury timeline, Gallagher might be able to return as early as February 21 against the New Jersey Devils.
