The Montreal Canadiens have announced that defensemen Noah Dobson and Kaiden Guhle are day-to-day with groin injuries sustained during Thursday’s 7-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Canadiens also announced that defenseman David Reinbacher is being evaluated for an injury.

The cause to all three players’ injuries remains unknown, as Dobson and Reinbacher left at various points of the game without any notable events to trigger it, while Guhle was withheld from the game to begin with.

Dobson was the only player the Canadiens announced would not be returning to the game, as he had played the first two periods of the game, and then was not on the bench for the start of the third period. Dobson had two shot attempts and a giveaway in 15:16 of ice time before his departure.

Dobson is without a point in the two preseason games he’s played so far with the Canadiens. He’s coming off of a disappointing performance in 2024-25 with the New York Islanders, which saw him get just 10 goals and 29 assists for 39 points in 71 games.

The Canadiens acquired Dobson from the Islanders at the 2025 NHL Draft in exchange for two 2025 first-round picks and Emil Heineman. Montreal then signed Dobson to an eight-year contract with a $9.5 million cap hit.

Guhle was originally supposed to play on Thursday, but was held out of the lineup for maintenance purposes, with it now being revealed to be due to his groin.

Guhle was held without a point in his lone preseason game so far this year. He’s coming off another season solidifying himself as one of Montreal’s best defenders in their own zone, along with six goals and 12 assists for 18 points in 55 games.

Reinbacher was also hurt during Thursday’s loss, leaving the game with about eight minutes left in the third period to be evaluated. However, with the Canadiens down 6-2 at this point in the game, it’s possible this could be precautionary. Reinbacher had a shot, a giveaway, a hit and three blocked shots in 17:40 of ice time in the game.

Reinbacher has been held pointless in two preseason games so far. The Canadiens will have to hope his injury isn’t severe, as he only got into 10 games in 2024-25 with the Laval Rocket, where he had two goals, three assists and five points.

The Canadiens will continue their preseason action when they visit the Maple Leafs in Toronto on Saturday at 7 p.m. EST. Montreal is currently 2-1-0 through three games.
