Montreal Canadiens’ sign Jordan Harris to two-year $2.8 million contract extension

Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes announced Friday that the Canadiens have signed defenseman Jordan Harris to a two year, $2.8 million contract extension; the contract holds an average annual value (AAV) of $1.4 million. Harris was set to become an unrestricted free agent (UFA) at the end of the season. He is represented by Forward Hockey.

The Haverhill, Massachusetts native was drafted in the third round, 71st overall by the Canadiens at the 2018 NHL Draft. Harris was actually playing high school hockey throughout his draft year for the Kimball Union Academy of the United States High School-Prep League; he also had a brief five game stint with the Youngstown Phantoms of the United States Hockey League (USHL). Harris spent four season at Northeastern University of the NCAA and he is a two-time NCAA (Hockey East) Champion. In 2021-22 he was named the NCAA (Hockey East) Best Defensive Defenseman.

Harris made his NHL debut last season on April 2nd against the Tampa Bay Lightning, in 10 games he scored one goal. This season, the 22-year-old has tallied one goal and 10 assists in 47 games. He currently ranks fourth among Canadiens defensemen for points, he sits behind David Savard, Arber Xhekaj and Kaiden Guhle. According to Natural Stat Trick, Harris possesses a Corsi-for percentage of 47.93% and an expected goals percentage (xG%) of 47.12%. With Harris now locked up on a new deal for the next couple of seasons, all eyes turn towards lethal goal score Cole “Goal” Caufield who is also a UFA at the end of the season.
