One of the most recognizable veterans in women’s hockey is set to return to action.

The Montreal Victoire announced that the team has activated defender Erin Ambrose from long-term injured reserve. In response, the Victoire have placed forward Maya Labad back on the reserve roster.

Ambrose has been on LTIR with a lower-body injury since the PWHL returned from the Olympic break. The injury stemmed from the gold medal game in Milan, when Canada’s Ambrose was leveled with a hit from U.S. forward Britta Curl-Salemme. Curl-Salemme was given a minor penalty for boarding while Ambrose exited the game. Team USA ended up pulling out the win in overtime. Ambrose posted two assists in seven games, taking home the silver medal for the first time in her Olympic career.

This wasn’t the first time the Keswick, Ont. native missed time this season. In early January, an illness took her out of the lineup prior to a game against the Minnesota Frost.

Ambrose appeared in 14 of the Victoire’s first 15 games of the season, but has yet to find the back of the net herself. She has registered four assists, with her last point coming in a win over the Ottawa Charge on Jan. 24. The 31-year-old has a plus/minus rating of +3 while averaging 20:39 of ice time per game.

Labaad was signed to a standard contract for the second time this year, a little over a week ago, after fellow forward Maureen Murphy was placed on LTIR. The rookie from Quebec has appeared in six games this season, and twice since last being activated, scoring a goal, posting a +1 rating while averaging 5:35 of ice time.

The Victoire (12-4-2-5) are second in the PWHL, five points back of the Boston Fleet.
