Victoire re-signs Maggie Flaherty to two-year contract

A low-key important player in a recent championship run is staying in La Belle Province.
On Wednesday, the Montreal Victoire announced that the team has re-signed defender Maggie Flaherty to a two-year contract. It’s the Victoire’s first signing of Phase 3 of the 2026 PWHL Expansion Roster Distribution Process.
Flaherty is now protected for the remainder of the expansion process. She joins the Victoire’s first three protections from the opening phase – Laura Stacey, Ann-Renee Desbiens and Marie-Philip Poulin. Montreal lost Erin Ambrose, Hayley Scamurra and Nicole Gosling during Phase 2 to Las Vegas and Hamilton.
The 26-year-old just finished her first season with the Victoire after two seasons with the Minnesota Frost, where she helped the team win back-to-back Walter Cups. The big, bruising blue liner proved to be an important figure in one of the missing pieces that Montreal needed to get over the hump and make a deep playoff run. Not only was she crucial in helping the Victoire finish atop the regular season standings, but she also played a pivotal role in the Victoire claiming its first Walter Cup, defeating the Ottawa Charge in four games last month. Flaherty herself scored the game-winning goal in overtime in Game 3.
While Flaherty may not be the most noted goal scorer, her leadership abilities and intangibles make her one of the team’s most important players. She set career highs in goals (4) and points (9) during the regular season, registering a plus/minus of +5 while averaging 18:30 of ice time. She added another three goals and four points in nine postseason games.
In 76 regular-season games in the PWHL, Flaherty has scored six goals and 11 assists for 17 points, with five points in 25 postseason contests.
The Victoire can still protect up to two more players during this phase. Phase 3 of the expansion process continues through 3 p.m. ET on June 12.
