Predators select Cameron Reid No. 21 overall in 2025 NHL Draft

The Nashville Predators selected Kitchener Rangers’ defenseman Cameron Reid 21st overall in the 2025 NHL Draft at The Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
The Predators acquired the pick by trading the 23rd and 67th overall picks in this year’s draft to the Ottawa Senators.
In 2024-25, Reid scored 14 goals and added 40 assists for 54 points and 44 penalty minutes in 67 regular-season games. Over two OHL seasons, Reid, a native of Aylmer, Ont., has 16 goals and 61 assists for 77 points and 61 penalty minutes in 116 regular-season games.
Reid also has 10 assists in 24 OHL playoff games.
Daily Faceoff’s Steven Ellis ranked Reid as his No. 19 prospect in his final 2025 NHL Draft rankings, writing that he closed out the OHL regular season “playing some of his best hockey.”
“(Reid) started to put up points consistently, and he’s shooting in more dangerous areas, too,” Ellis wrote. “Reid isn’t big, but he can shut guys down. Reid can do a little bit of everything – his three-zone game is so good, and he’s got the intelligence to beat so many players in 1-on-1 situations.”
Ellis also ranked Reid as his sixth-highest defensive prospect in his top 15 defenders list.
“(I)f you’re looking for someone with the brains and the mobility to challenge for a top-four spot one day, he’s your guy,” Ellis added.”
In a June 6 interview with NHL.com reporter Heather Engel, Reid shared that he spends his summers training in St. Thomas, Ont., at Scott Paton’s gym, where he would work alongside Joe Thornton.
“He works hard and he’s a huge motivation, especially where I’m from,” Reid said. “I just love to look his way and take little things from what he does, not just in hockey but in his daily life.”
Reid also told NHL.com that he wants to model his game after Winnipeg Jets’ defenseman Josh Morrissey and three-time Stanley Cup-winner Duncan Keith.
