Predators claim Vrana, Oesterle off waivers; Fischer to Blue Jackets

Three players were claimed off the NHL waiver wire Thursday.

In Nashville, the Predators claimed left winger Jakub Vrana from the Washington Capitals as well as defenseman Jordan Oesterle from the Boston Bruins.

In 26 outings with the Capitals this season, Vrana has notched seven goals and four assists for 11 points alongside six penalty minutes and a plus-six rating. Originally chosen 13th overall by Washington in the 2014 NHL Draft, Vrana has totaled 393 career contests counting stops with the Capitals, Detroit Red Wings, and St. Louis Blues in which he has tallied 117 goals and 103 assists for 220 points. The 29-year-old Czech-born forward has also added eight points in 38 postseason games, underscored by a Stanley Cup win with the Capitals in 2018.

For Oesterle, the 32-year-old native of Dearborn Heights, Mich., joins the Predators following 22 appearances with the Bruins this season in which he scored once and added five assists for six points with two penalty minutes and a plus-two mark. Oesterle also saw nine contests with the AHL affiliated Providence Bruins in which he registered three goals and five assists for eight points. Oesterle has totaled 393 career contests with the Edmonton Oilers, Chicago Blackhawks, the former Arizona Coyotes, Red Wings, Calgary Flames, and Bruins in which he has notched 20 goals and 72 assists for 92 points.

In Columbus, the Blue Jackets claimed right winger Christian Fischer off waivers from the Red Wings. Through 45 games with Detroit this season, the 27-year-old Chicago native has notched one goal and six assists for seven points with 11 penalty minutes and a minus-five rating. Originally chosen 32nd overall by Arizona in the 2015 NHL Draft, Fischer has totaled 52 goals and 75 assists for 137 points through 522 career contests split between the Coyotes and Red Wings.
