The Nashville Predators announced Monday afternoon that they extended defenseman Jeremy Lauzon to a four year contract with a $2 million cap hit.

Lauzon is in the final year of a two year contract with an $850,000 cap hit that he originally signed with the Boston Bruins. Originally a second round pick with the Bruins, he spent three seasons with them before the Seattle Kraken selected him in the expansion draft in 2021. The Predators acquired Lauzon as one of their additions at the trade deadline.

In 66 games in the 2021-22 season, Lauzon scored two goals and seven points, including one goal in 13 games with the Predators. He had no points in the three playoff games he played in for the Predators. He also had a 45.99% shot attempt share and a 45.4% expected goal share at 5v5 this season, although those numbers improved to 49.62% and 49.08% when he joined the Predators.

The Predators currently have just over $23.5 million in cap space, but some big names to retain, particularly Filip Forsberg, who ranks second on Frank Seravalli’s top UFAs list. They’ll look to improve on their 2021-22 season, which saw them barely sneak into the final wild card spot before getting swept by the Colorado Avalanche.
