Nashville Predators forward Yakov Trenin awarded two-year contract in arbitration

Nashville Predators forward Yakov Trenin has been awarded a new two-year contract through salary arbitration, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported Friday afternoon.
Trenin’s new deal reportedly carries a $1.7 million annual cap hit. The 25-year-old right-handed center scored 17 goals and 24 points in 80 games with Nashville during the 2021–22 regular season.
Trenin will be eligible to become an unrestricted free agent after his contract expires in 2024. The 6’2″, 201-pound forward tied with Matt Duchene for the Preds’ team lead with three goals in four games during the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The Predators originally selected Trenin in the second round (No. 55 overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft. After spending parts of five seasons in the American Hockey League with the Milwaukee Admirals, Trenin finally made his NHL debut with Nashville in 2019–20.
Trenin spent most of the pandemic-shortened 2020–21 campaign in the NHL, scoring five goals and 11 points in 45 regular-season games before adding two points (both goals) in the playoffs.
In 146 career NHL games over parts of three regular seasons, Trenin has scored 24 goals and 41 points. He was the Predators’ last restricted free agent left to sign.
With Trenin’s case settled, only six players (Lawson Crouse, Maxime Lajoie, Keegan Kolesar, Mason Appleton, Jake Walman, and Pavel Zacha) remain unsigned with arbitration dates still to come.
